The organic vegetable box scheme is recognised as a fast and inexpensive way of getting organic vegetables from farm to table with minimal packing and distribution costs and ensuring receipt of your produce at the peak of its freshness. The scheme has become very successful with those who like most vegetables and are willing to try a few unusual varieties with which we often include a recipe.

In a recent comparison of organic food prices, partly based on vegetables from Purton House, Dr. Anna Ross (senior economist at the University of the West of England, Bristol) found that supermarket vegetable prices were a great deal more expensive than organic box schemes. She concluded that:

A good idea is to plan your weekly menu around your box because you don`t always know exactly what you will get. Each week a selection of organic produce is put into your box according to season and availabilty. Your box will comprise of potatoes, carrots and onions with five or six different seasonal vegetables.

During the winter months we include occasional non-seasonal produce to make the boxes a bit more interesting, therefore as the the price of the boxes stays the same year round, the quantities may vary slightly depending on current wholesale prices.

NB: All oxes will often include herbs or garlic in their seasonal items and the variety box will occasionally have some exotic or special items which can be requested.

Organic Fruit Boxes

You can also include a fruit box when placing your vegetable box order. We offer

• small (approx 5 items - £6.50)
• medium (approx 6-7 items - £9.00) and
• large (approx 8 items - £10.50)

We have recently planted an extra 80 fruit trees so that we can produce more of our own fruit for the fruit boxes but in order to offer you some exotic fruits, we supplement the boxes with fruit from other growers both in the U.K. and abroad, all of which conform to the equivalent standards set out by UKROFS.
